While online journalism degrees can be respectable, there are concerns about the worth of a journalism degree as a whole. In general, as long as an online degree from a university is properly accredited by a respectable organization, then it is just a valid as a traditional university. For example, Ashford University has an online degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges--a gold standard metric to determine the validity of a university. However, there is an on-going debate as to whether it is worth it to purse journalism--since social media has made it increasingly difficult for journalists to break into the field. In general, there are many great schools with online journalism degrees, but make sure you weigh the pros and cons of pursuing journalist before enrolling.
