Answer:

A degree in finance can help you become a better investor, but there are also plenty of other resources available to develop your investing skills. Top university finance programs, such as at the University of Pennsylvania or NYU, offer students the opportunity to develop knowledge on topics like economics, international markets, and financial investing while also providing them with the opportunity to make connections with other students and professors who are often industry experts. If you earn a degree in a finance-related field, it will be easier to secure a job in that market; however, that doesn't mean you need to have a finance degree to secure a job in investment or become a better investor. There are certification tests you can take to become a certified financial investor, including:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA): Requires either a bachelor's degree or 5 years of experience, and includes three separate tests. This is a popular investment certification.
  • Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM): Offered by the CFA, there are two levels and no prerequisites.

If your goal, however, is strictly to become a better investor, there are numerous resources and courses online that can teach you about investing and economics.
