Question:
How do I get an Automotive Certification?

Answer:
There are several types of automotive certifications, but perhaps the most recognized is Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). ASE is the abbreviation for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, a non-profit organization working towards certifying Automotive Technicians and improving the quality of vehicle repairs. ASE certification is available to Technicians that demonstrate the required work experience and after passing the associated examination. Requisite work experience includes full-time and hands-on work experience. Typically, a minimum of one year is required, but specific details can be found on the ASE website. In some cases, a combination of work experience and formal training can also be accepted, but this will vary based on the specific exam. The exam itself is available to be taken at more than 450 locations in the USA. It is offered days, evenings, and even weekends. The testing itself is administered by an ASE partner called Prometric. If needed, the certification tests for cars and light trucks are also given in Spanish. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are valid for 5 years, after which time successful completion of a recertification test is required to maintain certification.
