Getting an event planning certification can help differentiate you from the rest of your competition. Fortunately, several institutions now offer hands-on training and accreditation for event planners. Here are some of the ways to get an event planning certification:

  • Take certifications from renowned institutions in event planning, such as the Certified Special Event Professional (CSEP) designation, the Certified Meeting Professional certification from the Convention Industry Council (CIC) and the Certified Meeting Planner program from Meeting Planners International (MPI). They are globally recognized, making their certification takers to be known for their high level of competency, skills, and knowledge. However, they are only open to experienced professionals with three to five years of experience. Their fees can also be costly.
  • There are platforms that offer online courses which emerged through the years, such as the QC Event school and EVENTful Ventures. They provide professional training with flexible hours, allowing their students to study at their own pace. The cost is also lower compared to physical trainings.
  • There are some local colleges or universities which offer courses or certificates, such the University of San Diego's Continuing Education department and New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Their certificate takers can be considered by companies which are eager to hire emerging planners. However, their fees may also be costly.
