A master of social work takes an average of one to two years to complete when studying full time. After you graduate from your MSW program, you will need to pass the licensed master of social work certification exam, which is given by the Association of Social Work Boards.
Further, if you plan on pursuing a career as a licensed clinical social worker, you will need to fulfill two to three years of experience supervised by an LCSW.
Though your master in social work program will vary based on the school you choose to attend, you can expect to spend your years in the program learning about human behavior, social factors and policy, and mental health assessment. Further, you will receive practical training through internships and field placements, which often focus on the area in which you have chosen to concentrate.
