Answer:

If you are being certified with the American Association of Medical Assistants, or AAMA, you can expect to sit for an exam that will contain 200 questions. 28% of the test, or 50 questions, will be related to psychology, communication, professionalism, medical law, ethics, risk management, and medical terminology. Another 25% of the test, or 45 questions, will cover medical reception, patient advocacy, business practices, medical records, scheduling, and finances. The majority of the exam, or 47% and 85 questions, will include anatomy and physiology, infection control, intake and documentation, preparation and assistance, nutrition, collection and processing of specimens, diagnostic testing, pharmacology, and emergency management. It is important to note that only 180 of the 200 questions will be scored as the other 20 are used for pretesting prior to incorporation into exams as items that will be scored. Once you have become certified, you will be required to complete 60 continuing education credits every five years or retake the exam in order to recertify.
