Answer:
The Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) places accounting assistants, or clerks, in the same category as bookkeeping and auditing clerks because they all deal with the financial records for businesses and organizations. According to the BLS, bookkeeping, auditing, and accounting clerks in Arizona earned an average of $42,510 per year as of May 2019. This is comparable to the United States average for this occupation of $42,110 per year as of May 2019.
The BLS predicts that employment for bookkeeping, auditing, and accounting clerks will decrease by 6 percent between 2019 and 2029 because of the increased use of automation technology such as cloud computing software. Even with an expected decline, this field is large enough that replacing some workers who retire or otherwise leave the occupation will still create plenty of job opportunities. While not necessarily required for employment, an associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting or business can be beneficial for employment and advancement opportunities. There are also certifications such as the Certified Bookkeeper from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and the Certified Accountant from the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers (NACPB). Additionally, the NACPB offers a license as a Certified Accounting Paraprofessional (CAP) for those with an associate's or bachelor's degree.
