Answer:

Dental hygienists have higher pay, fewer hours, and higher overall job satisfaction compared to MRI technicians.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of 2019 the median pay of MRI technicians was $62,280 per year while the median pay of dental hygienists was $76,220 per year. On average, dental hygienists are paid $7.65 more per hour than MRI technicians.

In terms of the time spent working, many dental hygienists work part-time while most MRI technicians work full-time. Dental hygienists also tend to have regular daytime hours while MRI technicians could have overnight shirts working on emergency patients.

Job satisfaction is difficult to calculate and compare because it is influenced by many different factors and is highly subjective. The more satisfying job for one person may be less satisfying for another. With that said, U.S. News ranks dental hygienists as #1 in Best Healthcare Support Jobs whiling ranking MRI technicians as #16. The rankings take into account factors like stress level, work-life balance, and future growth in addition to salary. The ranking is a good indicator of average job satisfaction, but due to the subjective nature of job satisfaction, it cannot be used to accurately gauge how satisfied you will personally feel in either of these careers.
