The minimum education requirement for most Ph.D. programs is a bachelor's degree from a recognized regional university/college. Most programs also have requirements on subjects that applicants have taken that will help them work through their chosen programs. The following are some schools that offer Ph.D. in Finance programs and the educational requirements/background required for admission:
Stanford Graduate School of Business' Ph.D. in Finance program requires students to have strong background in the following: calculus, linear algebra, and statistics. Prospective students are also required to have knowledge of computer programming. Those who do not have the required background knowledge have the option to acquire the knowledge before they get to Stanford or take classes at Stanford once they get there.
The Ph.D. in Finance program at The University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business indicated that an undergraduate degree in finance or economics is not requires for admission into the program. Students are required to have background in intermediate micro- and macro-economics, calculus, and mathematical statistics.
The Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin - Madison's Ph.D. in Finance program requires applicants to have background in the following courses: undergraduate economics or finance, mathematics, calculus, linear algebra, statistics, and real analysis.
A master's degree in marketing science management will not hinder your admission to Ph.D. programs in finance as many universities look at specific courses you have completed rather than a specific degree/major.
