ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) provides certification programs for personal training including Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, Group Exercise Instructor and Strength Training specialist.

To enter the ISSA Personal Trainer program one must be 18 years old and have proof of CPR training. In addition, proof of high school completion and government issued ID is required. The Personal Trainer Program can be started at any time and have 8 months o complete the online course material at their own pace. Most students complete the program in 3 to 4 months and then take an exam which consists of 200 multiple choice questions. ISSA also offered higher level Masters, Elite and Associate programs. The Masters program includes training in specialized areas and the Elite program is similar with fewer courses required. The Associate program is similar to a traditional Associate degree program and appropriate college credit may be allowed to be transferred into the program.

Certifications must be renewed every two years. Proof of completion of 20 Continuing Education Units, current CPR certificate, and demonstration of public competency. Cost of renewal is $99.
