Perfect School Search

Aspiring individuals who wanted to be travel agent basically need to finish high school studies and obtain a diploma as the educational requirement for the profession. Although being a high school graduate can be hired, most employers often look for individuals who have additional knowledge in the industry. Individuals may enroll in college degrees that focus on travel planning and tourism to give them an edge to be hired as a travel agent. Community colleges and vocational schools often offer classes in professional travel planning, which gives their students knowledge in marketing, reservation, and regulations in international travels. These topics may be vital for an individual who wanted to become a travel agent. Additionally, individuals with limited experience can take the Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) examination provided by the Travel Institute to increase their credentials. The Travel Institute offers the following titles:

  • Certified Travel Associate - This title is given to those individuals who finished different classes and exams offered by the institute. It is also given as a starting label for those travel agents with little work experience.
  • Certified Travel Counselor - Travel agents with 5 years of work experience may be given this title as proof of their knowledge and ranking in the industry.
