The National Center for Education statistics reports that there are eleven public colleges or universities with degree or certificate programs in music.

Of the eleven schools, two have associate's degree programs in music, John Tyler Community College, and Tidewater Community College. Four schools offer bachelor's degree programs, Norfolk State University, the University of Mary Washington, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the college of William and Mary. Two schools offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music, Radford University, and the University of Virginia - main Campus. George Mason University offers graduate degree programs in music. Southwest Virginia Community College and Virginia Highlands Community College both offer certificate programs in music. Each program has different admissions requirements, and it is a good idea to speak with the admissions departments for information on admissions and tuition.
