To become a fitness trainer, you don't have to get a degree. You can start your career in this field by getting a certificate or diploma from an accredited program. A certificate or diploma for fitness trainers often takes a year or less to complete and involves courses like nutrition, injury prevention, kinesiology, and anatomy, which are fundamental courses for a career as a fitness trainer. With a certificate or diploma, you will be able to apply for most job positions as a fitness trainer. Despite this, there might be some employers that require you to have a bachelor's degree. If this is the case, you should get a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, or a related field. Getting a bachelor's degree to practice this profession will definitely enable you to get better job opportunities and higher salaries. However, a bachelor's degree takes four years to complete, three more than a certificate or diploma program.
