Perfect School Search

Answer:

Each university will actually have their own set of standards for what constitutes each level of Latin honors for graduates. The three levels of Latin honors from highest to lowest are Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude. Typically, for the Summa Cum Laude, a student will need a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher and be in the top 5% of their class. For Magna Cum Laude, a student will usually be in the top 10% of their class and hold a GPA around 3.8 or 3.9 overall. Next, the Cum Laude honor will go to those students who are in the top 20% of their class with a GPA around 3.5 or higher. Students can always check with their academic advisor or even their school website to see what their specific set of requirements are for their students earning Latin honors.
