Question:
What is a career in logistics like?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Jobs in transportation, distribution, and logistics form a job cluster. The biggest segment in the cluster involves moving goods primarily through trucks, followed by trains, pipelines, boats/ships and airplanes. Those in logistics analyze and coordinate the flow of goods across the supply chain. Another large segment of this industry involves moving people, using ground and air transportation and related support activities.
Nearly every industry employ logisticians. The work is fast-paced, and a career in this field typically require full time work.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for logisticians was $74,750 in May 2019. Entry-level jobs typically require a bachelor's degree, although for some jobs, an associate's degree may suffice. This is an industry which cannot be outsourced overseas. Hence, job prospects remain attractive; employment is projected to grow 5% from 2018 to 2028, as fast as the average for all occupations.
