Answer:

Students who earn a theology degree study God, or the divine, from a scientific perspective. They learn how human beings perceive and relate to God, including the processes used to develop religious beliefs. They also learn how these beliefs influence individuals' values, ethics, and morality, and how this affects individuals' decision-making processes and behaviors. They examine culture to understand the impact that religion has on society, including how societies deal with issues and problems, such as racism and poverty.

One purpose of the study of theology is to prepare students to become religious leaders, but this is not the only career option available to theology students. To earn a theology degree, students must develop critical thinking skills, research abilities, and communication skills. These skills are transferrable to a variety of jobs, making theology students eligible for careers in business, government, and nonprofit agencies, as well as religious institutions.

Sometimes, at secular colleges and universities, a theology degree is offered as part of religious studies, which is a separate discipline from theology. Often, to earn a degree in theology, students attend a religious school that teaches theology from the perspective of the religious sect sponsoring the school, such as Catholicism or evangelical Christianity.
