The HESI A2 entrance exam is the same as the HESI exam. With the A2 exam, the name has been extended to include Admission Assessment, or A2, after HESI, making the exam's full name the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Admission Assessment (A2), or HESI A2. Elsevier Student Life created the HESI A2 exam for nursing schools to use as a tool to evaluate students when they apply for admission to nursing school. The exam, which is computerized and has multiple choice questions, includes ten subtests that assess students' basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, grammar, mathematics, physics, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. In each of these topics, the subtests seek to determine if students have the basic knowledge required to work in healthcare. In addition, the HESI A2 includes two additional subtests that assess students' personalities and learning styles. Each nursing school has the option of choosing the HESI A2 subtests that evaluate the knowledge the school thinks students need as they enter nursing school. Some schools may administer all the HESI A2 subtests, while others administer only some of the subtests.
