The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is one of the most widely recognized certification agencies for medical assistants. Even though these healthcare professionals are not required to hold a certification in most states of the U.S., the vast majority of employers tend to prefer certified medical assistants over non-certified ones. As a result, getting a certification provides better job opportunities and even higher salaries. The NHA offers two certifications for medical assistants: the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). If you are more interested in the clinical side of medical assisting, you should get the CCMA credential. On the other hand, if you want to focus on clerical tasks, the CMAA will be a better certification for you. To get one of these certifications, you will need to fulfill an educational or experience requirement, and pass a certification exam. This exam will determine if you are properly prepared to get one of these credentials.
