Answer:

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians provides EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification. According to the National Registry, the EMT certification process includes the following:

  1. Successful completion of a state approved EMT course (completed within the last two years)
  2. Hold a current CPR-BLS certificate (for Healthcare Providers) or an equivalent
  3. Successful completion of the following: (1) the National Registry cognitive exam and (2) a state approved psychomotor exam.

Individuals aspiring for the certification should submit an online application with the National Registry and pay the $80 application fee. An Authorization to Test (ATT), including instructions on how to schedule the exam and other details, will be sent to individuals who qualify to take the exam.

Once obtained, certification is valid for and should be renewed every two years. Individuals have the option of recertifying in two ways: (1) through earning continuing education hours or (2) through an exam.
