Medical scientists must have a doctoral degree or medical degree. They use their scientific knowledge and research skills to identify ways to solve health issues. Wind Turbine Technicians

Wind turbine technicians are installation professionals who set up wind turbines and then maintain the turbines to ensure they continue to operate properly. They prepare for their career by completing a postsecondary certificate or associate's degree in wind energy technology. Wind turbine technicians play a direct role in ensuring that electricity can be produced by wind power, and their work is reducing demand for non-renewable energy sources. By helping to provide clean energy they are helping to improve the environment.

Environmental Engineers

Environmental engineers are required to have a bachelor's degree in their field. They spend their career working on ways to solve environmental issues. They may develop ways to reduce pollution or other environmental problems. Environmental engineers can change the world by developing effective strategies to conserve natural resources, prevent environmental damage and improve things like air quality.

Instructional Coordinators

Instructional coordinators are responsible for determining what information will be taught in schools and what type of materials will be used as part of the curriculum. They can change the world by developing effective teaching strategies and courses that will effectively engage students and promote a higher standard of education. They must have prior experience in education and a master's degree.

Legislators

Legislators are elected to implement or change laws and, although it is not always necessary, many legislators earn a bachelor's degree prior to pursuing this career. Legislators study specific issues and work with other legislators to develop bills that they vote on and can change the world by changing the laws that govern society. For example, legislators can play a role in determining the legal rights of people based on their gender or ethnicity or sexual orientation. The laws they pass on social matters as well as environmental issues can have a significant impact both locally and globally.

Sociologists

Sociologists normally need a master's degree in sociology. Sociologists who focus on applied sociology are ready to use their research skills to produce data related to issues affecting society, cultural groups and other types of groups people can belong to. They research issues related to topics such as poverty and gender, and by helping to inform things such as educational and political decision-making, sociologists can help change society.

Hydrologists

Hydrologists are experts on water, the environmental impact of water and how precipitation will affect water levels in bodies of water such as lakes and rivers. They are physical scientists who must have a bachelor's degree in geoscience or a similar discipline that includes studies in hydrology. Hydrologists can play a direct role in changing the world by influencing legislation to help conserve water and one of their roles is to identify strategies for improving water quality. They can also help ensure water is available to those who need it.
