Wisconsin College Overview

Wisconsin offers several colleges affiliated with a variety of denominations. The following sections look at some of these colleges' program offerings, financial aid, and campus activities.

Mount Mary University

Mount Mary University is an all-women's college. However, its graduate programs are coed. The college was ranked #15 among women's colleges by collegechoice.net for 2016. As a Catholic college, community service is combined with education so that students can get a hands-on approach to social and community issues. According to NCES, Mount Mary offered scholarships to 100% of its undergraduate students in 2015, helping defray the cost of tuition. There are over 30 undergraduate programs available, including art therapy, dietetics, fashion merchandise management, food science chemistry, interior design, and social work.

Maranatha Baptist University

A small student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1 (per the NCES in 2016) provides students with an opportunity to get personalized instruction at Maranatha Baptist University. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Maranatha has 31 majors available. There is also a seminary school offering graduate degrees and a distance learning department that can help students get what they need from their education. Going to chapel is a requirement at Maranatha during the weekdays. Services feature guest speakers and Bible faculty in addition to workshops and other activities.

Carroll University

Carroll University offers students a diverse educational and campus life. It is home to 22 NCAA Division II athletic teams, over 50 organizations and clubs, and ten service-based programs. Students can stay on campus in one of the traditional residence halls, suite-style dorm rooms, or apartments. Some of the numerous undergraduate majors include athletic training, music education, marine sciences, finance, graphic communication and freshwater sciences. There are also a number of pre-professional programs, which set up the foundation courses for a graduate degree in fields like podiatry, veterinary science, physical therapy, dentistry, and pharmacy.

Wisconsin Lutheran College

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Wisconsin Lutheran College prepares students for Christian leadership. With over 40 undergraduate majors to choose from, WLC prides itself on small, intimate classrooms of around 16 students per class. The school offers several dual-degree programs through partnerships with neighboring schools to help students accelerate their education, such as the 3+3 dual-degree for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), the 3+3 dual-degree for the Juris Doctor (J.D.), or the 3+4 dual-degree for the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.). U.S. News and World Report ranked WLC within the top 20 best colleges in the Midwest for 2018.

Northland College

Northland College prides itself on its education and diversity. In fact, Northland was one of the first colleges to offer a major in Native American studies. Also, Northland boasts a strong LGBT2QAI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, 2-spirit, queer, ally, and intersex) Alliance. Along with studying on campus or online, Northland College offers the opportunity to study off campus or abroad. There are four programs that set up study abroad options in other countries and six programs that work with students to learn through experience or at other colleges. For instance, Outward Bound has outdoor leadership programs where students backpack, kayak, and take advantage of other outdoor opportunities in order to find their own path and gain insights and leadership skills.
