Colorado Christian University
The NCES reported that Colorado Christian University had a little over 6,300 undergraduate students in 2016. The university offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English with an emphasis in creative writing. Students in the program are encouraged to enter their writing in poetry and other writing contests, as well as through a creative writing publication called Paragon. Students can worship together at twice-weekly chapel services and participate in Bible studies, small groups, mission trips and outreach ministries. The university also has a variety of student-led ministries, including Lifeguards pro-life ministry, Westside children's ministry and Young Hearts nursing home ministry.
Southeastern University is a school in Florida that offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Creative Writing and culminates in a capstone seminar. Students learn from published authors and take advanced coursework in topics like fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry. In 2016, the university had close to 5,060 undergraduate students, per the NCES. Spiritual life on campus includes weekly chapel services, an annual Conference event (spiritual conference), mission trips, worship services and discipleship/mentorship with faculty and staff.
Oklahoma Baptist University
Oklahoma Baptist University had 1,960 undergraduates in 2016, according to the NCES. Students on campus can grow in their faith by attending chapel services and participating in global outreaches and/or community groups like Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), men's or women's ministries or CONNECT Groups (discipleship groups). The school offers a BA in Creative Writing that includes creative writing workshops on different topics, such as poetry and fiction. Students in the program can also earn credit for internship opportunities with publishers, magazines and other organizations and take optional coursework in areas like professional editing to prepare for a variety of writing careers.
Belhaven University is an institution located in Mississippi that had an undergraduate population of about 2,710 in 2016, per the NCES. The university offers a BA in Creative Writing with advanced writing workshops, access to a writing lab and a 120-hour internship field experience. Students in the program also take various field trips to writing conferences and are encouraged to submit their work to the 'Brogue', the university's fine arts journal. For their spiritual lives, students can participate in Bible studies, worship services or some of the school's ministry teams, including FCA, Reformed University Fellowship, McNair Great Commission Fund (which gives financial aid for mission trips) or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
California Baptist University
In addition to chapel services, California Baptist University's spiritual life is comprised of their global missions (Mobilization), local service opportunities (Compassion Ministries) and discipleship ministries (Campus Ministries). The school's discipleship ministries are unique with Challenge Nights that are designed to get students plugged into a Tribe, which is a fellowship group of 20 to 60 students and has smaller Discipleship Groups within it. Students at the university can pursue a BFA in Creative Writing that culminates in a final writing project. Students in the program form a close-knit writing community and develop their personal and unique writing voice. In 2016, the NCES reported that the university had close to 6,940 undergraduate students.
