Overview of Schools with Marching Bands
These Christian schools have marching bands that perform at football games as well as a variety of other events. Jarvis Christian College even provides financial aid for students in its marching band.
Geneva College's marching band consists of musicians, a drill team, flag performers, and majorettes. The band performs at the college's home football game and travels to some away games. Musically inclined students may also be interested in Geneva's symphonic and jazz bands or the woodwind and string quintets. Areas of study include music business, music education, communication studies, and engineering, in addition to several other liberal arts and sciences majors. Geneva holds chapel services on Wednesdays at 10:10 AM and requires that students attend at least 11 services each semester.
Liberty University offers certificates through doctoral degrees, with undergrad degrees in fields like aviation, Biblical studies, and commercial music. Graduate degree options range from business administration to music studies. The university's marching band is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, along with a color guard. The band has performed at the New York Giants' stadium and been featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Other Liberty organizations include the National Association for Music Educators and the Environmental Stewardship Club. Liberty hosts convocation on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 AM, with a gospel service on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM.
Boston College seeks to enhance students' personal, spiritual, and intellectual development through their curriculum and environment. The college holds daily Eucharistic liturgies as well as the Sacrament of Reconciliation on weekdays. Students can complete bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in areas such as philosophy, music, and criminal and social justice through colleges devoted to the study of arts and sciences, nursing, and theology and ministry. Students in the marching band travel for football games and domestic and international parades, such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the College Football Classic in Ireland. Other organizations of interest include a chamber music society and a dramatics society.
University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish marching band has approximately 400 members and claims the title of the oldest college band with continuous existence. Notre Dame also offers several concert and jazz bands for students to join. The university is home to several colleges devoted to architecture, arts and letters, business, engineering, and science. Students can pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in dozens of fields, including historic preservation, scared music, and economics.
Jarvis Christian College
Jarvis Christian College offers associate's and bachelor's degrees. Associate's degrees are offered in criminal justice, general studies, and religion. Students can choose from many bachelor's degree fields, like business administration, religion, mathematics, and social work. The college's Sophisticated Sounds of Soul marching band started in 2014, with scholarships available for participating students. Jarvis also offers a college choir and intramural sports, such as coed basketball, soccer, and kickball. The college holds weekly worship services in the Smith-Howard Chapel.
