Abilene Christian University (ACU)
Abilene Christian University offers a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology for those who are seeking a counseling degree. This degree program is 60 credit hours long, and you will take courses in psychotherapy, clinical assessment, research methods, and a practicum. The practicum experiences involve supervised work with a client, as well as practice in tasks like interviewing clients and writing reports. In order to enter into this graduate program, you must have earned at least 12 undergraduate credits in psychology courses. For ACU, faith is about connecting with God and connecting with community. Arlington Baptist University
Among the 12 undergraduate programs available at Arlington Baptist University, Biblical counseling is one of them. In fact, at ABU, this program is offered in two formats, both on campus and online. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to continue their education beyond the bachelor's level and to prepare them for working as a counselor in the church. Students will take courses about the Pauline Epistles, marriage & family counseling, group discipleship, ecclesiology, human personalities, and premarital counseling, all along with Christian service requirements. With Christian values at the center of learning, students have the chance to grown spiritually, learn more Biblically, and grow compassion for others through the Christian-lens.
Southern Methodist University
Southern Methodist University offers 123 undergraduate, 127 graduate, and 23 doctoral programs. The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development offers the Master of Science in Counseling. Students who successfully complete the program will walk away with a degree and the knowledge to pass counseling licensure exams. Studies include group counseling, ethics & mental health, lifestyle & career development, research design, and counseling theories. Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU)
Depending on the area that you wish to focus your studies on, there are several options for counseling students at Our Lady of the Lake University. Undergraduate programs in psychology help prepare you for more intensive counseling studies. At the master's level, you can focus your studies on family therapy, psychology, or school counseling. The Master of Education in School Counseling is an online course that allows OLLU students the chance to study as non-traditional students. Finally, the PsyD in Counseling Psychology program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and meets state licensing requirements. Service is held every Sunday evening for LeTourneau University students. Students can join in morning prayer each day or join the Guardian Angels prayer group, where every student is given a faculty or staff member to focus prayers on. Students interested in entering the counseling field can earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees at LeTourneau. There is even a dual counseling psychology B.S./marriage and family therapy M.A. program. Some of the courses in this 5-year program include human sexuality & sex therapy, tests & measurements, abnormal psychology, child & adolescent issues, family systems theory, trauma & theodicy, addictions counseling, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. These programs also include internships and practicums for clinical experience.
