Colorado Military-Friendly Schools

Several universities in Colorado feature numerous military programs for present and past military service members. Most have student organizations that assist with the transition from working in the military to getting a college education. These schools have different financial aid options geared towards military service men and women ranging from the use of the GI Bill to different assistance programs and scholarships. Counseling and health services are typically free for military service members and veterans at these schools, giving men and women an opportunity to focus solely on their education.

University of Colorado - Boulder

The University of Colorado - Boulder offers several financial aid opportunities for veterans including scholarships, a monthly housing allowance, and the use of the GI Bill. This university offers several other veteran assistance programs including free dental, counseling, and disability services. Additionally, the University of Colorado - Boulder offers credits for military training. This school offers many academic options to students at the bachelor's, master's, and doctorate levels including programs that may interest veterans like engineering, computer science, health professions, and social sciences, and students can complete many of these programs online.

Metropolitan State University of Denver

Metropolitan State University of Denver is the host institution for Colorado's Veterans Upward Bound program, which offers students a variety of services including refresher instruction and college entrance assistance. This program also assists veterans with information on all financial aid opportunities, tutoring, mentoring, and counseling services available to them. Metropolitan State University of Denver offers many different educational programs that may interest service members and veterans including civil and material engineering, health related professions, criminal justice, and aviation programs. Many programs are offered as individualized degree programs along with online courses. Service members and veterans may also choose to take advantage of the university's self-paced distance learning courses that where students can complete a course at their own pace and on the schedule they choose.

University of Colorado - Colorado Springs

University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS) offers military service members and veterans a special orientation that gives detailed information to assist with the transition from working in the military to college life. UCCS offers a Boots to Suits program that provides students with mentors to assist with career preparation, networking, and entering the workforce. This school also has a transitions seminar course that helps military service members with their college experience and improves their chances of graduating. This university offers a variety of degree programs ranging from certificate programs to graduate degrees. UCCS also has a student veteran organization that connects others with shared military experiences on campus and after graduation.

Colorado State University - Fort Collins

Colorado State University - Fort Collins has several programs that help military service members and veterans transition to life as a college student including the New Start program which provides mentoring, support with memorizing and concentration, and assists in finding available community resources. The university also offers an Adult Learner and Veteran Services program that assists with various aspects of college life including leadership skills. This university offers degree options ranging from bachelors to doctorate degrees, many of which can be completed entirely online. Approximately 75% of students who graduate from CSU-Fort Collins are employed in a related field to that in which they earned their degree.

Colorado Christian University

Colorado Christian University is an option for veterans or current military service members because programs are flexible and geared towards adults who may have jobs, work in the military, or may be deployed. This private university offers certificates and associate's degrees up to master's degree programs, all of which can be completed completely online. Programs can also be completed on site or on several Colorado military bases. This university offers military families tuition discounts as well. Colorado Christian University offers many programs that may interest military service members and veterans including healthcare, business, criminal justice, and political science.
