Schools in Oregon with Master's Programs in Computer Science

Oregon State University

Oregon State University in Corvallis has a Master of Science (MS) or Master of Engineering (MEng) in Computer Science. The MS program requires at least 45 hours of coursework and offers a thesis or project option. This program also has an optional Software Innovation track for students interested in creating software systems. The MEng program also requires 45 hours and concludes with a final oral exam.

University of Oregon

The University of Oregon in Eugene provides an MS or Master of Arts (MA) in Computer and Information Science. Students can choose a non-thesis option that still requires a Final Project or select a thesis option. The programs total 54 credits and include core courses, electives and cluster courses in areas like software engineering, data science, systems and networks or user interfaces. For undergraduates pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer and information science and who are interested in pursuing their master's, the school has an accelerated master's program where some of the undergraduate coursework can count towards electives for the master's.

Portland State University

Portland State University offers an MS in Computer Science that has a thesis option. Full-time students can complete the program in 1.5 years. Students in the program must select a track in subjects such as theory, languages, databases, security or systems for further specialization. The program totals 45 credits and includes electives, courses in the student's chosen track and core courses that cover topics in operating systems, design analysis and programming.

Oregon Health & Science University

The Oregon Health & Science University in Portland has an MS in Computer Science and Engineering with a thesis and non-thesis option. The program takes 5 terms (1.5) years to complete and consists of core courses in the computer science and engineering major and courses that focus in either computer science or engineering. Students in either option have the opportunity to get involved in research on campus, but those who choose the thesis option may need longer than 1.5 years to finish their degree. Students in the program also have the opportunity to pursue paid summer internships.

City University of Seattle

The City University of Seattle offers an MS in Computer Science that can be taken on-campus or online. The program ranges from 39 to 59 credits and can be completed in 2 years. Students are required to take a capstone course that tests and applies their knowledge from the program to a specific problem or research study. Core courses in computer systems include topics in cloud computing, C++, software testing, data visualization and computer architecture.
