University of Utah

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City offers a variety of academic programs in data science, including a graduate certificate in big data, a Master of Science (MS) in Computing, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computing, and an MS in Business Analytics. These programs may include subjects in data mining, machine learning, visualization, algorithms, and more. Some of these programs, like the graduate certificate in big data, may require as little as 15 credits, while other programs, such as the MS in Business Analytics, may require more than 30 credits and include a culminating experience, like a capstone project. Utah State University

Utah State University in Logan has an MS in Data Science and a Master of Data Analytics. The MS in Data Science requires core coursework in subjects like database systems, data mining, and data science, 2 elective courses, and a thesis. The Master of Data Analytics program allows students to specialize in statistics, management information systems, or economics and finance. The program requires 33 to 35 credits, depending on the specialization, and includes a final internship and capstone project.

Southern Utah University

Southern Utah University in Cedar City offers an MS in Business Analytics that trains students in data analytics and operations research. The program totals 33 credits and requires a capstone project. The curriculum is divided into 18 credits of analytics courses, 12 credits of economics, and 3 credits of computer science. Specific course topics include big data, data analytics, data processing, management science, database design, and marketing analytics.

Utah Valley University

This university in Orem provides a Certificate of Proficiency in Data Analytics for those holding a bachelor's degree in a different field. The certificate program requires 18 credits and students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to graduate and earn a 'C-' or higher in each course. The program does require some prerequisite coursework in statistics, but students can also pass challenge exams in place of the specific courses. Students in the certificate program take 15 credits of core courses in areas such as business intelligence systems, warehousing, applied data analytics, and data science, as well as a 3-credit elective.
