Overview of Bachelor's Degree Programs with a Double Major in Political Science and International Relations

Programs in political science will introduce students to political issues, how governments work and the legal process. They will gain a strong foundation of knowledge related to political institutions and how they should operate. Students pursuing studies in international relations will learn about factors that affect international relationships between countries and strategies for resolving international conflicts. Admission Requirements for Double Major in Political Science and International Relations Programs

There are several core courses that students must complete in high school, such as four English courses and three science courses, as well as designated numbers of courses in other subject areas. Students must submit their transcripts and proof of their standardized test scores to be considered for acceptance. Political Thought

As society evolves, new issues emerge that challenge political structures. Students will look at how political movements have affected political thinking in the last century. They will also explore other factors that can affect political processes and theories, such as technological developments.

World Political Systems

Students will learn about the political systems that are in place in different countries around the world. They'll explore the relationship between political systems and culture. They will also learn about political policies in different geographic regions. The evolution of political systems in regions that were once Communist will also be explored.

Scope and Methods of Political Science

Which theories govern political research? Students are introduced to the strategies used to analyze information for research purposes. This course will familiarize students with the practical research work political scientists do. They will be equipped to conduct research and have an understanding of political science research theories from this course.

Minority and Ethnic Group Politics

A course in minority and ethnic group politics looks at major minority groups, such as African-Americans, and identifies their specific concerns. The relationship between minority groups and specific political policies, such as immigration policy, is studied. Students will also examine the representation of minority groups. Other topics, such as disputes between people of different ethnic groups, will also be examined.

Foreign Policy

Students will learn about American's foreign policy and how it has changed over time. They will also learn about different political theories that impact foreign policy. Through an assessment of foreign policy changes since the mid-1900s students will develop an understanding of how foreign policy has evolved and the factors that have contributed to changes in foreign policy.

Politics and Communication

How does the twenty-four-hour news cycle impact politics? Students will explore the challenges politicians and political groups face with social media and other forms of communication, as well as the benefits of modern communication methods. Students will also learn how movies and television shows portray politics.

There are public and private non-profit institutions that offer majors in both political science and international relations.
