New York Schools Offering Graduate Programs in Education

The City College of New York

Located in the Manhattan, The City College of New York (CCNY) School of Education offers a robust number of education programs for those seeking a master's degree. Art education, literacy, and special education are just a few of the graduate education choices for specialty areas at CCNY. Several options exist for degree levels, including certificates for teaching, as well as full degree programs. The specific number of credits required to earn a degree or certificate will vary depending on the program subject area.

Columbia University

At Columbia University's Teachers College, your choices for graduate programs might seem overwhelming. More than fifty options are available for graduate programs in education. Common degrees that you may see at other schools are present, including English education and early childhood. There are also very specific graduate programs that can lead to master's or educational degrees. You can find programs in dance education, anthropology and education, and adult learning and leadership at Columbia. Awards range from certificates to doctorates.

New York University

NYU Steinhardt issues graduate program awards through its department of teaching and learning. Fordham University

New York Education Graduate Program Admission Requirements

For most graduate education programs in New York, you will need a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. This doesn't necessarily have to be in education, as many secondary education programs specialize in a subject you will have studied in the past. Graduate programs usually ask for letters of recommendation, which you can obtain from educators who have direct links to you as a previous teacher or colleague. You should plan to take the GRE exam, or the GMAT if it is accepted. Each university will have a different fee to apply, which can usually be submitted online once you are finished with your application.
