Overview of Virginia Epidemiology Graduate Programs

Virginia Commonwealth University

Virginia Commonwealth University awards a Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology. Students will take courses such as research methods in epidemiology and health dataset analysis. During the last semester of their program, students will need to submit a formal application to be eligible for graduation. Students can usually earn their degree with four years of full-time study.

Prospective students will need a master's degree in public health or a similar field with at least a 3.0 GPA. They will also need GRE scores no older than five years that are in the preferred 75th percentile. The admissions process includes a personal statement, three reference letters, and a resume.

University of Lynchburg

Candidates can complete their Master of Public Health at the University of Lynchburg, with training in areas like epidemiology and health services administration. Full-time students can take traditional classes and earn their degree in one year. Part-time options include both traditional and online classes and take 24 months. Candidates will need 30-36 credits to graduate and will take courses like epidemiology and public health social factors. They will submit an online application, official transcripts, a resume, three references, and a personal essay.

Old Dominion University

Old Dominion University has both a traditional and online Master of Public Health. Students will need 43 credits to graduate and can earn their degree after two years of full-time enrollment. Program coursework includes epidemiology, introduction to public health, and health promotion practice and theory. Prospective students will need to supply three recommendations, transcripts, and a personal statement outlining their interest in the program.

Liberty University

Students can enroll in Liberty University's Master of Public Health with an epidemiology concentration. It is a 42-credit program with both on-campus and distance learning classes. Students will take courses like public health administration, biostatistics, and principles of epidemiology. They will need a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Students will complete an online application with $50 fee and provide their college transcripts.

Eastern Virginia Medical School

Students can pursue a Master of Public Health with an epidemiology concentration at Eastern Virginia Medical School. The 43-credit program will take full-time students two years to complete, while part-time students must earn their degree in six years.
