Michigan Schools with Executive MBA Programs

Michigan State University

Michigan State University in East Lansing provides a part-time Executive MBA program that can be completed in 20 months. Students begin the program with a 2-day orientation in the summer and then complete the coursework every other Friday evening and the whole day during Saturdays. Students can take courses from areas in critical thinking, strategy, operations, global perspective, finance and accounting, leadership and management and experiential learning. The program also includes a residency week that can be completed at East Lansing or at one of the school's international locations.

University of Michigan

The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offers an Executive MBA program that can be taken at the Ann Arbor location or in Los Angeles, CA. The program takes 21 months to complete and students meet on-campus once a month on Friday evenings and Saturdays. Students at the Ann Arbor and Los Angeles campuses work together in online learning communities and exams for the program can be taken remotely throughout a Friday to Sunday period to allow students flexibility in their schedules. The program includes a unique leadership development experience and an Executive Multidisciplinary Action Projects course that is 14 weeks long and gives students real-world experience working on a team to solve a complex problem for an organization.

Oakland University

Oakland University in Rochester Hills has a 21-month Executive MBA program that meets every other Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Students must complete a 3 to 4-day orientation on-campus, followed by a total of 39 credits of coursework. The program aims to provide students with leadership skills and professional development, as well as global immersion through course topics and an optional study abroad experience. Students also take core business coursework in subjects like marketing, data analytics, finance, economics, business information systems and global supply chain and operations management.

Common Entrance Requirements

Students interested in applying to Executive MBA programs in Michigan generally need at least a bachelor's degree and professional work experience. Some programs may have a minimum of 5 years of work experience, while others may like to see as much as 10 years of experience, of which 5 years or more were in a managerial role. Typically, these programs do not require the GMAT, but some programs may take scores into consideration. It is fairly common for applicants to be asked to submit their transcripts, resume, letters of recommendation and responses to essay questions with their application. The majority of these programs also require applicants to undergo a personal interview for admissions.
