Executive MBA Program Description

The EMBA is typically designed as a business leadership degree for mid-career professionals. Program delivery takes place in a range of formats depending on the program, including concentrated weekend courses or hybrid online study. Core courses in the program focus on providing a foundation of business understanding, and then students can choose electives or concentration courses to best hone their executive skills in their area of focus. Here are some of the courses students can expect.

Management Communication

Effective managers and executives must be able to communicate clearly with a range of audiences. A communication course may enable students to develop skills in writing, speaking, and media. Students may be required to prepare a range of documents and presentations, and receive feedback from their instructor and other students on their skills.

Microeconomics

Studying microeconomics can help business professionals understand decision-making within organizations and by consumers. A microeconomics course will review demand and supply, game theory, and competitive market equilibrium. The course may also look at how to apply theory to practical problems.

Corporate Finance

A corporate finance course may provide a general overview of a multitude of topics within this discipline. Specific topics may include cash flow techniques, capital budgeting, capital structure, and dividend policy. Students may gain practical experience through case studies or analysis of corporate financial documents.

Marketing Strategy

A course on marketing strategy may help students begin to understand the decision-making behind corporate marketing decisions. Intelligence from the marketplace and strategies to act on such intelligence may be presented. Examples from the corporate world or a simulation may provide examples for analysis.

Mergers and Acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions courses could explore how firms can grow through the strategies of mergers and acquisitions. Students may be provided with tools as to the process of mergers and acquisitions, including valuation and deal structure. In addition, issues of managing the merger process may be considered.

Entrepreneurship

A course in entrepreneurship will help professionals to understand best practices in innovation and how to analyze a new business idea. The writing of a business plan and design of novel products, both within and outside of existing organizations, may be considered. How to launch and distinguish these novel products may be reviewed as well.
