Career Information for Finance Jobs that Require an Associate's Degree
Financial clerks usually only need a high school diploma, but some employers may require those with an associate's or bachelor's degree in the field. Financial clerks work in a variety of organizations to maintain financial records and handle financial transactions. This often involves calculating charges and creating accurate bills for customers, as well as providing help to customers as needed. Financial clerks may specialize in a particular area of business, such as payroll, insurance claims or billing and posting.
Bookkeeping, Accounting and Auditing Clerks
Many bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks have at least some postsecondary education to learn accounting, spreadsheets and bookkeeping software. These clerks are responsible for entering financial transactions of an organization to create financial records. They often create various financial reports, which they check for accuracy and ensure costs and income balance. If any errors are detected they have to figure out where the discrepancy occurred and how to correct it.
Although a high school diploma is usually the minimum education requirement for information clerks, some employers prefer to hire clerks with an associate's degree. Although not all of these clerks work in finance-related careers, many of them do work for financial organizations and businesses. As such, these clerks are often responsible for creating bills, orders or claims for customers and maintaining records of these processes. Real Estate Brokers and Sales Agents
Real estate brokers and sales agents need at least a high school diploma, but many choose to earn an associate's or bachelor's degree in real estate. These agents must also obtain a license before they help people buy, sell or even rent various kinds of properties. Real estate brokers are able to manage their own businesses while sales agents are required to work with a broker. Both positions handle the contracts and documents for different real estate transactions after clients have chosen an available property.
Buyers and Purchasing Agents
Education requirements for buyers and purchasing agents depend on the employer, but range from a high school diploma to a bachelor's degree. Buyers and purchasing agents negotiate contracts and the purchasing of products or services for their organization. The organization may use these products or turn around and resell them to consumers. Buyers and purchasing agents must analyze financial reports to determine price points, evaluate suppliers based on quality and price and ensure that all points of a given contract are met between the supplier and organization.
