Types of Graduate Programs in Marketing Research
Master of Science in Marketing Research
Master of Science (MS) in Marketing Research programs are fairly common and may be available in on-campus and online formats. Full-time, on-campus formats may be completed in as little as 12 months, while online formats may take around 20 months to complete. Some of these programs may offer additional specialization areas, such as marketing strategies, analytics and brand communications, and may encourage or include an optional internship opportunity for on-campus students and projects for online students for hands-on learning. Core courses for these degree programs may include topics in marketing management, metrics and analysis tools, design methods, global marketing and consumer behavior.
Master of Marketing Research
Master of Marketing Research (MMR) degree programs are usually on-campus programs, but may offer evening and/or online courses for some flexibility. Some of these programs may offer additional specializations in areas like business analytics, and may be completed in as little as 11 months. These programs typically require one or more extensive marketing research projects to provide students with hands-on experience with analytic tools and technologies used in the field and may allow students to work with real clients. Students in these programs may take courses that discuss topics in statistics, data collection, marketing planning, advertising management and customer relations.
Master of Business Administration in Marketing Research
A less common degree program in marketing research is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in the field. These degree programs may be offered in full- or part-time formats and may take 2 years to complete. Students in these programs participate in various hands-on learning opportunities through projects and are usually required to complete a final practicum or capstone experience. Students may take various seminars, core MBA courses and courses in marketing research to cover subjects such as financial accounting, business strategy, marketing research/analytics, economics, consumer behavior and ethics.
Common Entrance Requirements
Graduate programs in marketing research may be competitive and typically require students to hold a bachelor's degree, which can usually be in any field, and some of these programs may have a minimum GPA requirement. Many of these programs require the GMAT, but some programs may accept either the GMAT or GRE scores. Most often, these programs require applicants to submit their official transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation a resume and a personal statement with their application. Some programs may also require an interview process and/or may like to see any relevant work experience in the field, but it is not usually required.
Students can pursue MS, MMR or MBA in Marketing Research degree programs that may be offered in various, flexible formats. These programs usually include hands-on projects and/or culminating experience to prepare students for their future career.
