Description of Online High Schools for Massachusetts Students

The state of Massachusetts offers two tuition-free commonwealth schools. In addition, there are three, private national schools for you to choose from.

View High School

View High School (VHS) is an appealing choice for online education because of the versatile curriculum. VHS is appropriate for homeschooling, student athletes, accelerated learners, and international students. The school received accreditation from AdvancEd's Northwest Accreditation Commission and offers courses in line with the Common Core program. A benefit of VHS is that your student can enroll in courses at any time and is not required to meet a completion deadline.

TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School

TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School, known as TECCA, is open to any student in Massachusetts. Because it is supported through the commonwealth, TECCA is tuition-free. Students will have access to curriculum that includes primary subjects, as well as Advanced Placement courses and NCAA-approved college courses. TECCA also offers a college planning club to help students better prepare for college.

Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School

Like TECCA, Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School (GCVS) is also tuition-free and open to all students in Massachusetts. GCVS students will experience online lessons for primary subjects, but will also experience planned trips with other students. GCVS employs the Massachusetts High School Program of Studies, known as MassCore, to ensure students receive a well-rounded education. As part of their education, students are required to create a graduation course plan upon entering GCVS.

Keystone School

With over 150 courses to choose from, the Keystone School provides students with a well-rounded education. The school offers 45 elective courses for students, with options ranging from six foreign languages to business courses. Keystone's educational excellence is illustrated by their accreditation from AdvancEd and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Although Keystone requires tuition, they offer a variety of payment plans, with discounts for military families or those who enroll more than one student.

K12 International Academy

K12 International Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. The school's mission is to help all children reach their potential by providing a learning environment that encourages diversity and a love of learning. K12 will work with your family to create a payment plan for your budget, with a 10% discount for each sibling you enroll after your first student. One benefit of K12 is they allow you to view sample lessons on their website.

State Regulations for Online High Schools in Massachusetts

The commonwealth virtual schools are considered the same as a traditional, public school district. Students who attend these schools will be required to meet the same standards as those in a traditional, public school.

The state of Massachusetts does not provide accreditation for private virtual schools. If your child is attending an in-state private virtual school, Massachusetts mandates that the school must be approved by the town. For out-of-state private virtual schools, Massachusetts will consider your child as homeschooled. The state requires that your child's educational plan be submitted to the public school district you live in for review and approval.
