Depending on a student's needs, they can choose to enroll at View High School for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. They also have the option of enrolling in only a single course. Students can select from a number of courses that will fulfill their core graduation requirements, in addition to some elective courses in areas like the arts and world languages. Instructors at View High School keep regular office hours during which students can contact them if they need extra help.

Forest Trail Academy

Forest Trail Academy is an online private high school available to students in Indiana. This program offers students a wide number of courses to choose from, allowing students enough options to enroll in a different core curriculum course for each of their four years in high school. They also can select from among a number of elective courses like career planning, art history, Spanish, and mass communications. For high-achieving students, they can also enroll in Advanced Placement courses, while students who need to retake a previously failed course can participate in Forest Trail's credit recovery program.

Indiana Connections Academy

Another option for students is Indiana Connections Academy, a public charter school for high school students in Indiana. Indiana Connections Academy has many courses for students to choose from, including honors, Advanced Placement, and a large number of career-related electives. Some of these include accounting, business, marketing, psychology, and entrepreneurship. Students who are interested in earning college credit while in high school can take advantage of Indiana Connections Academy's dual credit courses, which allow eligible students to enroll in up to three credits at Ivy Tech Community college while still in high school.

Indiana Virtual School

Indiana Virtual School is a public charter school open to students in Indiana. In addition to core curriculum courses, students at Indiana Virtual School can choose from electives like astronomy, criminology, fashion and interior design, and sports and entertainment marketing. Before beginning a course, students select from three paces -- traditional, extended, or accelerated -- which will determine deadlines and work load. The courses are monitored by instructors, who make sure that students submit a certain amount of work every week so that they stay on track.

Achieve Virtual Indiana Online Academy

Achieve Virtual Indiana Online Academy is the first online school in Indiana and the only school in the state that is directly affiliated with a public school district in Indiana. Students who enroll at this school have access to all the courses necessary to graduate in the state of Indiana, as well as a number of other advanced and honors courses, and various elective courses. Students also have the ability to earn college credit by enrolling in dual credit courses through Vincennes University.

State Regulations for Online Schools in Indiana

In general, all students enrolled in public school in Indiana, including online public and charter schools, must complete a certain set of requirements in order to graduate. These requirements, known as the Core 40, include eight credits of English and language arts, four credits of mathematics, four credits of science, four credits of social studies, two credits of physical education, one credit of health and wellness, six credits of college and career planning courses, and eleven credits for electives and other core curriculum courses.
