Career Information for Well-Paid Work from Home Jobs

Financial Analysts

Financial analysts analyze investments such as stocks and bonds, in addition to advising clients on wise investments. To become a financial analyst, a bachelor's or master's degree and strong math and data analysis skills are required. With the advent of the Internet and improved communications technology, it is now possible for these professionals to work from home and earn a very good living, whether they work for themselves or for a larger firm. This profession is expected to add jobs faster than average in the future.

Writers and Authors

Writers and authors research and write content or copy for a variety of print and online publications, from magazines and books to blogs, websites, e-books, and advertising copy. While it is not necessarily essential to have a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or communications to become a writer, it helps. What is essential are excellent written communication skills and the ability to produce quality work and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Often, a strong portfolio of writing samples is the key to obtaining clients and work that pays well.

Zoologists and Wildlife Biologists

Wildlife biologists and zoologists study animals, habitats, ecosystems, and how human behavior affects animals. Many of these professionals work outdoors, in the field, gathering data about how animals behave in their natural habitats. A bachelor's degree in biology or zoology is sufficient to land an entry-level job in these fields, but earning a master's degree or PhD will open doors for more advanced research positions. Though many jobs in this profession are at universities and private companies, it is possible to build a work from home career as a zoologist or wildlife biologist, especially if you wish to spend most of your time working in the field.

Survey Researchers

Survey researchers work with clients to assess their data needs, design surveys, administer the surveys, and analyze the data. Surveys may be used to collect facts or information regarding people's opinions, beliefs, or spending habits. Those with a bachelor's degree may be able to land an entry-level position in this rapidly growing field, although an advanced degree in one of the social sciences is preferred, along with strong statistical analysis skills. As with so many other professions, the speed and ease of modern technology and communications makes working from home as a survey researcher not only possible, but potentially quite lucrative.

Graphic Designers

Graphic designers work by hand and use design software to create visually compelling artwork, logos, newsletters, brochures, layouts, advertisements, and other work that communicates a company or brand's message. They work for advertising agencies, print and online publications, PR firms, and many other companies. As of 2019, approximately 1 in 5 (22%) graphic designers were self-employed (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics), making this an ideal career for people who would like to work from home. To become a graphic designer you need a bachelor's degree in art, design, commercial/industrial art, or graphic design, and a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
