Steps for Becoming a Certified Babysitter Online

The following are several steps on how to become a certified babysitter using online resources. All of these steps can be completed online, including first aid, babysitter training and CPR certification.

Step 1: Complete a Babysitter Basics Online Course

Understanding the basics is always a great first step. The American Red Cross offers an online course in babysitting basics. These virtual courses are designed to introduce kids to the fundamental skills and knowledge required to be a babysitter. Courses like these are designed for kids who are 11 years of age or older. Students will be educated on what steps to take in emergencies, how to plan activities, and how to recognize behaviors in children that might be cause for concern and how to respond to them. This course contains six lessons, interactive simulations, instructive games, and ends with a final exam. Passing the exam will result in students being awarded a certificate of completion.

Step 2: Complete First Aid Training Online

This job involves a lot of responsibility. Knowing how to act and react during emergencies is not only a great way to prepare for being a babysitter, but also to prepare for any of these sorts of emergencies that might arise. Luckily there are online courses in both general first aid, and CPR certification.

The American Red Cross's Adult, Child, and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online course instructs students on a variety of first aid situations and techniques. Students will take part in real-time simulations to respond to hypothetical emergencies and learn how to carry out proper first aid in these serious situations.

Step 3: Become CPR Certified Online

There are also options for official certification online. These courses typically begin with an online video lesson provided by a healthcare professional. Students will then be asked to complete a test to confirm what they learned during the course. Some of these courses will also send a one-time-use practice mannequin. Students can connect via webcam to an instructor to have their CPR knowledge and technique evaluated online. Successful completion of these courses will result in CPR certification.

Step 4: Complete Advanced Training

Advanced childcare training courses will build on your fundamentals and instruct you on child behavior, child discipline, leadership skills, bottle feeding, safety, professionalism and how to hold a child. These courses offer simulations with digital characters responding to selections as if these were real-world situations. Successful completion should prepare students to take on the many responsibilities of caring for a child.
