The University of Maryland-College Park has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management. The program requires students to attend a variety of seminars, choose a minor and take multiple courses in research methodology. Minors may be chosen from a variety of areas, such as psychology, economics or information technology. The program is set up as a 5-year program with a first year research paper, second year comprehensive exam and second year research paper, as well as a dissertation that is usually completed in the fourth and fifth years.
University of Maryland-University College
The University of Maryland-University College in Largo provides an online Master of Science (MS) in Management with a specialization in human resource management. The program totals 36 credits and requires a capstone course. Students in the program take core courses that cover topics in decision making, statistics and organizational behavior, as well as a required orientation course. Specialization coursework includes topics in team management, recruitment, organizational change, labor relations and issues in the field.
Towson University in Towson offers an MS in Human Resource Development. This program is unique in that it has additional areas of study which students may choose from, including in areas such as leadership and organization development, industrial and organizational psychology and employee training and development. The program requires 36 credits and is offered in part- or full-time formats, as well as on-campus with evening courses and in a hybrid format. Students are required to complete a capstone course and may also participate in human resource practicum and/or internship experiences for hands-on learning.
Westminster's McDaniel College also has an MS in Human Resource Development that can be completed in 2.5 to 3 years. The program is offered on-campus, online and in a hybrid format and has evening and weekend courses for flexibility and to accommodate working professionals. The program follows a cohort model and begins each fall. For their capstone experience, students must complete a practicum in human resources development and a portfolio project.
Bowie State University
Bowie State University in Bowie offers a Master of Arts (MA) in Human Resource Development that totals 39 credits. The university also provides the program at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (SMHEC) in California, MD, and offers evening and weekend courses to accommodate working professionals. Students in the program must complete a comprehensive exam prior to graduation. The school also has a graduate certificate in Project Management that requires 5 courses and includes simulation software for hands-on learning.
