Recruiting Manager

An IT recruiter with several years of successful recruiting and account management experience could move into the position of recruiting manager. Recruiting managers are responsible for the development of new business for a staffing services company. They also direct recruiting teams, help handle contract negotiations, and provide an important point of contact for clients. Because of their proven experience, recruiting managers also take care of the recruiting needs for high-level clients. Some travel can be expected. A demonstrated understanding of various human resource responsibilities, such as benefit plans and employment laws, may also be required.

Human Resources Manager

The position of recruiting manager can be a stepping stone an IT recruiter needs to become a human resources (HR) manager. HR managers are responsible for the planning and coordination of their company's workforce. This includes recruitment and hiring, employee training, benefits management, payroll administration, and even dispute mediation. An HR manager must understand and be able to advise on corporate-wide human resources issues such as sexual harassment. They also work alongside other management and top executives, identifying productivity or organizational problems and recommending solutions. While a bachelor's degree may be suitable, candidates who have a master's degree with a focus on human resources or business have the best advancement prospects. Also, while not required, employers may prefer a candidate with professional certification.

Computer Systems Analyst

An IT recruiter's education and work background, particularly their communication and problem-solving skills, can open the door to a career as a computer systems analyst. Computer systems analysts intertwine IT and business, studying a company's information technology needs and designing a solution to fill those needs in an efficient way. Specialization is common for computer systems analysts; an analyst may choose to work exclusively with engineering, financial, or healthcare computer systems. A bachelor's degree in an IT-related field may be adequate, though a master's degree in business administration (MBA) with an information systems concentration, or a master's degree in computer science, is preferred by some employers. An understanding of an employer's business field is also important, and industry-specific experience can set an applicant apart.

Computer and Information Systems Managers

An IT recruiter pursing a technology-focused career path may become a computer and information systems manager. These IT managers are responsible for planning and directing their company's computer-related initiatives. They can direct hardware and software installation and maintenance, oversee network security, and conduct computer systems cost analysis. Computer and information systems managers can also oversee other IT personnel, negotiate with vendors, and meet with top executives to discuss projects. Several years of experience in the IT field are required, and employers seek out experience specific to their industry; for instance, an applicant for a hospital IT manager should have experience with computer systems in the healthcare field. Many employers also seek applicants with a graduate degree, an MBA being the most common.
