Career Information for Job Information for Introverted Teens

Fast Food Cook

Fast food cooks have to interact with their fellow employees. However, interaction with customers is limited. The job of the fast food cook generally is predictable since the food prepared is based off of a menu and involves 'putting the head down' and cooking. No formal education is required to become a fast food cook. Skills are learned on the job.

Babysitter

Babysitting is a pastime for American teenagers. It is suited for introverts because the job typically only involves interacting with a few children and the parents. The children may also be sleeping for a portion for a day. There is no formal education required to become a babysitter, but some parents may want the teenager to know certain skills like CPR, the Heimlich maneuver or first aid basics. The hiring process is usually informal, and networking often occurs through friends and family.

Movie Theater Usher, Lobby Attendant, or Ticket Taker

Ushers, lobby attendants, and ticket takers can have several responsibilities. Cleaning, checking tickets, or helping people with special situations can be among the duties expected. Typical interactions, such as checking a ticket, are quick and easy conversations that will not drain an introvert too much.

Dishwasher

Dishwashers do exactly what one might think. They wash dishes left behind by customers at restaurants. They usually work in a kitchen area and have most of their time to themselves. There is not a lot of interaction with other staff. Dishes and other cooking equipment get dropped off to be washed, and the dishwasher thoroughly cleans them to be used for the next set of menu orders. There is no formal education required to become a dishwasher.

Library Clerical Assistant

Library clerical assistants sort materials at the library. Shelving books may be a primary responsibility. Shelving does not involve interacting with people, so it is suited for introverts. Job functions will vary depending on the size of the library. Other duties may involve receiving new materials for the library and registering patrons. Many teenagers start in this role as a volunteer, but may be hired after earning their high school diploma.
