Market Research Analysts

A market research analyst is a professional with a bachelor's or master's degree in marketing or a related field, who uses their skills to determine if creating and selling new merchandise is viable. These professionals may help determine when new gaming systems and video games are released.

Retail Sales Workers

Video games are sold in a number of venues ranging from chain retailers to specialized video game stores. While no formal education is required to work in retail sales, in video game stores it's more likely that managers will expect sales staff to play video games and be familiar with different gaming platforms so that they can answer questions from customers. Sales staff working with video games should also be aware of things like major game or system release dates, upcoming promotions and video game content regulations.

Writers and Authors

Writers can be involved with the video game industry by working for video game companies to help develop the stories and characters in games. They can also be involved by writing for magazines, online gaming sites or other venues and reviewing new video games, gaming systems and accessories.
