Registered Nurse

As a nurse, you will likely work in a hospital, clinic, doctor's office, or another type of healthcare facility providing patients with care and treatment. There are many advancement opportunities in the nursing field, including returning to school where you could pursue an advanced nursing degree to become a nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, or nurse practitioner. You could also transition into a more managerial role after working as an RN and become the charge nurse or a nurse manager. To become an RN, you will need to complete at least an associate's degree or diploma in nursing and become licensed.

Financial Analyst

Financial analysts work with both individuals and businesses and give them advice regarding investments, the financial climate, possible future financial trends, and company valuations. Financial analysts generally specialize in a certain investment area while they are gaining work experience, after which they could advance to a portfolio manager or fund manager positions. To become a financial analyst, you will need at least a bachelor's in a field like finance, accounting, economics, or mathematics. Obtaining a master's degree or certification in a particular area could help you advance more quickly.

Wholesale and Manufacturing Sales Representative

Sales representatives who work in wholesale and manufacturing generally work to sell goods, products, and services from wholesalers and manufacturers to various businesses. Advancement in the sales world often means being assigned to more important and larger accounts and covering larger territories. With enough work experience, you could also potentially climb to the position of a sales manager or supervisor. A high school diploma is required to be a sales representative unless the product requires specialized technical or scientific knowledge in which case a bachelor's degree in a related field may be required.

Civil Engineer

As a civil engineer, you will design and construct various structures, from roads and tunnels to airports and dams. With some experience, you could advance to a position of a project manager or a manager of a specific aspect of a project, like design or operation. Obtaining a Professional Engineering license will also enable you to qualify for more advanced positions. To become a civil engineer, you must complete a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Accountant

Accountants work for businesses and organizations by analyzing and preparing financial records, and making sure that a business is correctly filing taxes and properly maintaining their books. To advance, you may qualify for a position as the financial manager of a company in which you would oversee all financial transactions. You could also move into a position as a budget manager or even a chief financial officer of a major company. To become an accountant, you will need a bachelor's degree in a field like accounting and obtaining your CPA designation can help in finding jobs.
