Master's in Kinesiology Degree Programs in California

California State University Northridge

California State University Northridge offers a Master of Science in Kinesiology program that allows students to focus their studies in one or more of their available seven subdisciplines, which include biomechanics, motor behavior, sports studies and exercise physiology. The program consists of 30 units of coursework and culminates in a thesis project. Applicants to the program must have at least a 2.75 GPA, qualifying GRE scores and submit three letters of recommendation and a statement of intent.

California Baptist University

California Baptist University has a three-semester Master of Science in Kinesiology program that offers three concentrations in exercise science, sport management or physical education. Students in the program must complete 33 to 34 units and a thesis, and the program can be taken full- or part-time. Classes are typically in the evenings and core courses cover topics such as ethics and philosophy in kinesiology, legal aspects of kinesiology and research methods. Applicants need a 2.75 GPA and must submit transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a personal essay and a resume.

San Jose State University

San Jose State University offers a Master of Arts in Kinesiology program that consists of 30 to 39 units. Graduate students can choose from a concentration in athletic training, sport studies, sport management, exercise physiology or a general Master of Arts track. The project culminates in a thesis and offers courses in motor development, sport and adapted activities, psychology of coaching, exercise experiences for children, sociocultural perspectives, physical fitness and nutrition and more. Applicants need a 3.0 GPA and must submit qualifying GRE scores, two letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose.

California State University San Marcos

California State University San Marcos has a brand new Master of Science in Kinesiology program as of fall 2017. This program requires 36 units and a thesis and offers courses in motor control, advanced statistical analysis, public health and more. Classes are offered in the afternoons or evenings and are available in-person or in a hybrid format. Applicants to the program need a 3.0 GPA or higher and should submit transcripts, two letters of recommendation and a letter of intent.
