Farmers, Ranchers and Other Agricultural Managers
Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers oversee the various activities of their establishments. Depending on the type of work setting, this may include making decisions concerning the planting and harvesting of crops, the herding of livestock, the breeding of livestock and the selling of agricultural products. These managers also keep financial records, maintain farm equipment and structures and monitor market trends for their industry. Most of these managers hold a high school diploma and learn the trade through years of experience.
Construction managers supervise all the different aspects of various construction projects. They usually begin a project by creating timelines, budgets and establishing contracts from the different parties involved in the building process. They then oversee and coordinate the different activities of architects, engineers, subcontractors and other construction workers to ensure the project stays on track and complies with all current regulations. Although a bachelor's degree in the field is becoming more common, some construction workers may be hired with a high school diploma and years of experience.
Food Service Managers
Food service managers run the daily activities of their eating establishments. This involves coordinating and managing the kitchen and waiting staff to ensure that customers are happy with their experience, there, as they eat and drink. Lodging managers also evaluate the work of their staff, handle any problems that arise and closely monitor the business' budget and profits. Education requirements may vary depending on the size of the establishment, but many lodging managers can earn their positions with a high school diploma and some work experience.
Administrative Services Managers
The job duties of an administrative services manager vary greatly depending on the organization they work for, but in general, these managers oversee various administrative activities and supportive services. This may include ordering supplies, planning budgets, maintaining equipment or managing records. These managers may also be asked to help develop goals for their particular area, manage other administrative staff, ensure compliance with safety standards and recommend ways to improve operations. Education requirements for these professionals also vary and depend on the employer and position, but some can find work with only a high school diploma and related work experience.
