Schools in Texas with Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Programs

Texas Wesleyan University

Texas Wesleyan University is a private institution in Fort Worth that offers a Master of Science (MS) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Marriage and Family Therapy. The MS program totals 60 credits, includes a practicum experience and can be completed in 4 years when taken full-time. The PhD program consists of traditional courses that meet once a week and seminar courses that meet on Fridays and Saturdays. The PhD program requires a dissertation and a practicum experience that totals 100 hours of counseling.

Texas Tech University

Lubbock's public Texas Tech University has a master's program and PhD in Couple, Marriage and Family Therapy. The master's program offers a thesis and non-thesis option, while the PhD program requires a dissertation. Both master's options and the PhD program include a practicum experience for hands-on learning. Houston Baptist University

Houston Baptist University is a private school that provides a Master of Arts (MA) in Marriage and Family Therapy. Texas A&M University-Central Texas

Texas A&M University-Central Texas is a public school in Killeen that has an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy. The program totals 60 credits and some courses may be available online. Students in the program are required to complete a comprehensive exam and clinical experiences prior to graduation. Coursework includes core courses in marriage and family therapy, a statistics course, a human development course and electives in areas such as addiction, couples interventions, group process and delinquency.

Abilene Christian University

Abilene Christian University is a private university in Abilene that offers an online Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) that requires 60 credits. The online program still includes an internship experience for hands-on learning that totals 500 hours. Students can complete the program in as little as 32 months and can select from tracks in trauma, children and adolescent therapy or medical family therapy. Coursework includes topics in cultural diversity, family theory and couples therapy.

Common Entrance Requirements
