Tulane University

Tulane offers a 60-hour program that enables graduate students to obtain their Master's Degree in Social Work in the city of New Orleans. This program can be completed in two years for full-time students, or in up to eight semesters for part-time students. Some of the courses in this program include Social Work History and Policy, Theory I and II, and Diversity and Social Justice. The program may require a field practicum attached to a field seminar.

Southern University at New Orleans

Otherwise known as SUNO, this New Orleans-based university offers a four-semester Master of Social Work program for full-time students and a six-semester plan with two summers for part-time students. A field practicum, which is performed in the final year for full-time students and starts in the first summer semester for part-time students, is required for graduation. Courses students might see in this program include Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Social Welfare Policy and Services, and Social Work Research. A bachelor's degree and an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 are required for entry.

Louisiana State University

Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana State University (LSU) offers a Master of Social Work degree in four capacities to make this program accessible to everyone: a two-year full-time program, a three- to four-year part-time program, a single full year program for those in advanced standing, and an online program. To enter the program, candidates must turn in official GRE scores, official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a letter of intent, among other requirements. Courses common to this program at LSU include Human Diversity and Oppression, Differential Diagnosis, and Social Work Practice.

Grambling State University

Located in northern Louisiana, Grambling State University offers a Master of Social Work program for full-time, part-time, and advanced standing students. In this program, students must finish 900 hours of field instruction conducted on a weekly basis. Courses common to the Grambling program include Social Welfare Policy and Services, Direct Practice, and Research Methods. To enter this program, students must submit an autobiographical statement, three letters of reference, and other pertinent requirements.
