Master's in Kinesiology Programs in Oregon
Oregon State University
Oregon State University has a Master of Science in Kinesiology degree program that offers students a concentration in biophysical kinesiology or psychosocial kinesiology. Biophysical kinesiology includes laboratories in neuromechanics, human performance and exercise physiology, while psychosocial kinesiology has labs in disabilities research, physical activity and public health and sport and exercise psychology. Students in the program must complete a program seminar and final project or thesis, a minimum of 45 credit hours and ethical research training, and some students may choose to add a minor. Students planning to apply to the program need to submit a statement of purpose, three letters of reference, a resume, current GRE scores and transcripts from their undergraduate studies.
University of Western States
The University of Western States offers an online Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science degree program that is closely related to degrees in kinesiology. The program takes about two years to complete and offers a concentration in nutrition or health and wellness promotion. Students who wish to apply to the program need at least a 2.75 GPA and a bachelor's degree with the required prerequisite courses; they must submit a statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation and a resume. Graduates of the program may be eligible for discounts on National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) exams, as well as the CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) examination.
University of Oregon
The University of Oregon also offers a closely related degree program to kinesiology through their Master of Science in Athletic Training. This program is a clinical degree program for students who are already certified athletic trainers (ATC) and takes about two years to complete. Students in the program must complete 45 credits, clinicals/practicums, and a final project or thesis. The program is unique in the advanced clinical skills it offers in 18 different areas, including aquatic therapy, movement screen, muscle energy technique, advanced clinical assessment of posture and movement, therapeutic restoration of biomotor abilities and lower extremity joint mobilizations.
Although there are not many master's degree programs in kinesiology in the state of Oregon, there are some closely related degree options in exercise science and athletic training at schools throughout the state.
