Full master's degree programs in project management can be found at several schools in the state of California. Students looking for a graduate degree in this area can choose from either Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Science programs. Universities Offering a Master's Degree in Project Management in California

University of Southern California

The University of Southern California's Bovard College offers a Master of Science in Project Management. The program requires students to complete 24 credit hours. The courses cover topics in relationship and change management, methodologies in project management, risk management, and business intelligence. The university has two different tracks for completing the requirements; one can be done in 12 months and the other can be done in less than two years.

California Institute of Advanced Management

An MBA in Executive Management with a concentration in Project Management is available from the California Institute of Advanced Management in Alhambra, CA. The program is broken into a three-pillar paradigm: project management fundamentals, project management in practice, and organizational project management. In addition to these core subjects, students can will also study courses in leadership, finance, and decision making. The 36-credit hour program can be completed in one to two years.

California Southern University

California Southern University also offers an MBA program with a concentration in project management that is available entirely online. The project management concentration courses cover topics on strategic design, organization, and integration for project management. Students must complete 15 credit hours in the concentration. The full MBA program takes about two years to complete and is 36 credit hours in length. Core course subjects include ethics, marketing, and economics for large organizations. A capstone project is also required.

San Diego State University

This university offers an MBA with the opportunity to specialize in project management. The specialization requires 12 credit units in classes such as strategic project management, project planning, information systems security, and business analytics. These 12 credit units are a part of the program's 18 elective credits requirement. Above and beyond that students are required to take 3 units of business strategy and 21 core courses that cover topics in organizational behavior, economics, and accounting.

Program Admission Requirements for a Master's Degrees in Project Management in California

All applicants to a master's degree program in project management will need to have a bachelor's degree; the degree does not need to be in a specific area, but previous business coursework could be beneficial. These schools also take into account an applicant's undergraduate GPA and GRE/GMAT scores when assessing an application. Applicants may also be expected to submit a personal statement, often going over the applicant's professional qualifications and goals, as well as a resume and letters of recommendation. Related work experience is not required, but at least two years of professional work experience can make an application more competitive,especially for the MBA programs.
