Dual MBA & MSE degree programs allow you to earn two separate degrees: the Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Engineering. This type of dual degree can prepare you for specialized administration jobs in the realm of engineering or can give you an advantage in the job market. There are several dual MBA & MSE degree programs that can be completed in an online setting, and we will discuss some common coursework related to these programs as well as common entrance requirements.

Common Core Coursework

An MBA & MSE dual degree program can range between 30 to over 60 credit hours, so not all programs will have the same required courses. However, these programs do have some commonalities in coursework, which are described below.

Engineering Statistics

For your MSE degree, you will most likely need to take a course in statistics. Engineering statistics is a specialized course designed for engineers. You will cover such topics as probability, correlation, regression, data collection, and other principles of statistics.

Production Economics/Management

Another core course you may take for your MSE degree is that of production economics or production management, with the exact name of the course depending on the program. This type of course covers topics related to engineering economics. You might study cost estimating, inventory management, scheduling jobs, and supply networks.

Design/Analysis of Experiments

The MSE degree will also require you to take a course on designing or analyzing experiments. Mostly, these courses are helpful for conducting research and analyzing statistics. Randomized design, factorials, nested factorial, split plot, and optimum design are all topics that could be discussed.

Organizational Behavior/Leadership

For the MBA portion of your dual degree program, you will likely take a core course in organizational behavior. This course could also be under the umbrella of organizational leadership. Basically, you will study how human behavior affects an organization, its employees, and its leadership.

Marketing Management/Theory

Marketing management is another type of core course you may take to fulfill your MBA component. This course will mainly center on the different principles and theories of marketing. You may cover topics related to market research, product planning, market planning, and specific marketing techniques.

Strategic Management

Last, a core course in strategic management is often part of the MBA degree curriculum. A course of this type can cover a wide variety of different topics related to strategy, including concepts of competitive analysis, how managerial decisions affect the health of a company, and how to create advantages. Some courses might look at a strategy from a global or international perspective.

Entrance Requirements

To apply for admission to an MBA & MSE dual degree program, you will need to submit an application, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Some programs may require that you hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics, or that you have taken undergraduate coursework in these fields. This requirement, however, is dependent on the specific program. Also, most programs prefer GMAT scores over GRE scores, but exact requirements will, again, vary by program.

In an MBA & MSE dual degree program, you will earn two degrees related to business and engineering by taking coursework in each subject. There are several online MBA & MSE programs available to you with common entrance requirements.
